Oxygen Flask Combustion Unit (OFCU): Safe & Reliable Schöniger Flask Method

Need to accurately test for elements like Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine, Fluorine, or even various metals in your samples? The Schöniger flask method, also known as Oxygen Flask Combustion (OFCU), is a technique that makes this process simple, safe and effective.

This instrument is compatible with: USP <471> and EN 14582:2016

How It Works:

1.    Prep the Flask: We start with a special glass flask containing a small amount of liquid designed to "catch" the elements we're looking for.

2.    Sample Goes In: Your sample is carefully weighed and placed into a special holder, which is then attached to the flask's stopper.

3.    Oxygen Blast: The flask is filled with pure oxygen and then sealed tightly.

4.    Safe Burn: The sample is quickly and safely burned inside the flask. All the elements we want to measure turn into gases and get absorbed by the liquid.

5.    Analyse: Once absorbed, we can easily measure the exact amount of each element using advanced techniques like titration or ion chromatography.

The adaptability and cost-efficiency  of the Oxygen Flask Combustion Unit make it a practical solution for a wide range of sample types and sectors. You can find out more about specific industry applications here.

Elemental Analysis with The Oxygen Flask Combustion Unit

Ensure the safe and efficient ignition of samples for elemental analysis with our Oxygen Flask Combustion Unit. Specifically designed to facilitate the Schöniger flask method, this unit provides a proven and secure way to prepare samples for determining elements such as:

oxygen flask

Why Choose the Oxygen Flask Combustion Unit?

  • Enhanced Safety: Our unit is engineered with safety as a priority. Infra-red heat from two tungsten-halogen lamps is precisely focused, and the lamps only operate when the chamber door is securely locked. Pressure is safely vented, and glass fragments are contained within the robust aluminium chamber in the unlikely event of a flask explosion.

  • Proven Schöniger Method: Leverage the well-established Schöniger flask technique for sample combustion. This simple procedure involves an absorbent solution in an oxygen-filled flask, allowing combustion products to be absorbed for subsequent analysis (e.g., titration, ion chromatography).

  • Versatile Elemental Determination: Capable of determining elemental concentrations from percentage levels down to parts per million (ppm).

  • Wide Sample Compatibility: Easily handle a diverse range of sample types with minimal setup and low startup costs.

  • Repeatable & Consistent: Provides a highly repeatable method for sample ignition, ensuring consistent analytical preparation.

  • Durable Construction: Features a corrosion-resistant aluminium interior and a thick acrylic observation window for durability and operator visibility.
